I am a passionate traveler, photographer and an engineer by profession. I have always loved new travel experiences. However, it reached a whole new level when I took off for a Himalayan trek in May 2015 - it made me realise how totally gratifying travel can be. Since then, I have traveled near and far, as much as I can,  always looking for new and immersive adventures.

Be it trekking on snow in the mighty Himalayan range, bungee jumping with a river view in Rishikesh, cliff jumping or scuba diving in the emerald blue waters of Thailand, high-altitude river rafting at the freezing cold rivers of Zanskar in Leh - my propensity for new experiences is ever growing as is my wishlist.

Here’s Why You Should Give Your Long Overdue Backpacking Trip to Indonesia a Go in 2024!

Indonesia could not have a better description than what its motto represents! Bhinneka Tunggal Ika or Unity in Diversity completely summarises the country’s essence.

Well, being the largest island country it is composed of approximately 17,000 islands, with over 216 million inhabitants. For people traveling from India to Bali, Indonesia’s biggest attraction and similar other exotic places in the country, a lot is to be discovered and experienced.

So, are you ready for that much-awaited backpacking trip to Indonesia this year?

If so, then check out some of the compelling reasons why places like Bali remain on top of the list of Indonesian trip itineraries for Indians; not to mention the country’s overall diversity.

Simplified Visa Rules for Indians Passport holders

Good news for Indian tourists traveling to Indonesia! You no longer need to worry about your visa approval if you are visiting places like Bali for a maximum of 30 days.

That’s right! All you need is a Visa Exemption Stamp on your passport so that authorities can track your stay. The catch here is that you cannot extend the stay as such an exemption is not renewable.

Plus, availing a Visa on Arrival is simple too. You can receive a Visa for your Indian passport in Bali once you land in the country. The perk of a Visa on Arrival is that it can be extended for 30 days more; on the condition that you must visit the country for tourism purposes.

So, now that you know about how to get the Bali visa for Indians, let’s read more about the Places to visit in Bali.

Here’s the Checklist for you to Carry to Bali-Indonesia

  • First aid kit; you never know when the emergency might arise!
  • Shoes for tropical vacationing like hiking shoes, flip flops, etc.
  • Essential aids like travel adapters and portable charger.
  • Dedicated gears like the ones for wet weather, snorkeling, and the likes.
  • Essential documents like your passport.

That’s not all though! To make sure that you remain protected from all unforeseen financial losses during the trip, you must also be ready with a travel insurance plan offering extensive coverage.

You can buy international travel insurance online through Digit Insurance. For Indonesia, the travel policy for 7 days for 1 adult will cost you around 200 Indian rupees only.

A Handful of Must-Visit Places in Indonesia

Well, the country is wrought with enchanting tourist attractions, alongside the sparkle that Bali adds to its topography.

Why not plan an entire itinerary to visit the iconic island? We bet the places to visit would outnumber your stay there. From iconic temples to white sand beaches, the serenity it offers is unmatched.

To name a few, places like Pura Tanah Lot, Uluwatu Temple, Tegallalang rice terrains, Kuta Beach, and many more add a delicate yet perfect mix of diversity for all tourists.

Other remarkable places around Indonesia include the Gili Islands, Mount Bromo, Komodo National Park, Nusa Dua, etc.

While the capital of Indonesia, Jakarta may be the most boring of the South East Asian Capitals, there’s still plenty of things to do around the city and good connections to the islands.

Looking for Some Activities in Indonesia? Here’s What You Can Do There!

Just like the places, the list of incredible things you can do in Indonesia is, well, unending!

Give a visit to the volcanoes and craters that line the islands in this archipelago, like the one around Badung.

Next, you can visit the lively city of Yogyakarta to witness a perfect mix of ancient culture and modern life. As we said, the list is unbelievable. A few more activities to carry out can include participating in traditional craft workshops, hiking to the famous Mount Bromo crater, and a lot more.

Also, not to forget that Indonesia hosts one of the most amazing underwater life on the planet. So, snorkeling or scuba diving is a must. Here’s a post on the amazing dive sites of Raja Ampat if you are looking for an adventure!

Well, Cheap Accommodation is Another Treat!

How about we say “accommodations” in Indonesia are quite “accommodative” to your budget?

It’s true!

Whether you are on a shoestring budget or a luxurious one, you will conveniently find a place to stay as per your need.

From homestays to posh hotels and villas, you can spend your time in Indonesia at your convenience. To do so, you can contact the local agencies or check out listed homestays on the internet for a suitable place to stay.

Know that the prices of renting a stay can start from as cheap as 10 dollars, which would be some 700 bucks as per the Indian currency. The availability of guesthouses is in abundance too; so you do not have to worry if you land in the country at midnight and do not have a pre-booking.
